Does this matter?
A myth can provide useful context for the twists and turns in life. A story can be a guide. A catalyst for insight and the creation of meaning.
And yet.
Possessing a living myth, living a myth, goes beyond a conceptual relationship or attraction to a story. A living myth is a source of mystery, wonder, and obligation. A living myth dictates the way you organize your life.
A living myth, or a life in myth, is something many of us must find for ourselves. This quest raises important questions:
· Is (a) living myth possible in today's technological, post-modern, "myth-less" society?
· Are there ways to come into relationship with a living myth?
· And does such a thing really matter in these times?
Join me for this 2-part exploration of the nature of (a) living myth and these questions. Consider the role that myth plays--- or that a living myth could play??--- in your personal quest, the current culture wars, and our collective transformation.
Campbell identified four functions of myth: cosmological, mystical, sociological, and pedagogical or teaching (the function most familiar to many of us). We'll use this framework to organize our exploration and broaden our understanding of the role myth plays in our world.
This is an opportunity to reflect on the meaning myth has in your life. To spend a little time in the company of others drawn to these questions. To experiment. To share your thoughts and experiences, and refresh your spirit.
The online conversations are the heart of this offering so I hope that you can participate in person. We have so much to learn from each other. (Both sessions will be recorded if you can't attend). The size of our group will be limited to foster a sense of community.
I'll share some background materials and other resources to enrich your experience. Introductory materials are available upon registration. You'll receive email notification in advance of our online meetings, as additional materials are posted.
